50 Fenchurch
Setting New Standards in Social Value and Sustainability

CLIENT
AXA IM
Designed by Eric Parry Architects, 50 Fenchurch brings together 500 years of heritage with state of the art innovation.
An ambitious partnership between The Clothworkers’ Company, Yard Nine and AXA IM Alts, the development of 50 Fenchurch aims to set a new standard for sustainability in the City, committed to achieving a BREEAM Outstanding rating and a net-zero development through vertical urban greening. Embedding social value at the heart of its offer, the site includes a new livery hall, conservation of the 14th century Tower of All Hallows Staining and Lambe’s Chapel Crypt, as well as an extensive public realm.
Appointed by AXA IM Alts, Things Made Public set about producing a Social Impact Strategy that was both aspirational and deliverable in equal measures; genuinely reflecting the needs of local communities and workers.

To achieve this, we engaged in extensive place-based research, delving into local, City, and national policies, and gathering social, economic, and cultural data. Our community-centric approach utilised creative engagement and co-design to amplify the voices of community groups, corporate ESG teams and potential partners within the design and build of 50 Fenchurch.
Rooted in genuine engagement, we developed a Social Impact Strategy that underlines how the building and its operation can address rooted issues of diversity, inclusion and opportunity within the City; foster an environment that prioritises mental and physical health within the building; leverage its purchasing power to support ethical supply chains; and create more spaces for people to connect with each other.
With a commitment to measurable impact, 50 Fenchurch is poised to set new standards in social value within the City, making a lasting, positive difference in the community.

“
Bringing extensive knowledge, real experience and heaps of enthusiasm the Things Made Public team have been the perfect partner to create our Social Impact Strategy for Fifty Fenchurch in the City of London.
Their unique approach ensured the necessary time to engage with all our stakeholders, work across many members of the team and undertake in depth research to identify social needs that our project can address. We are excited to be taking our strategy forward with Things Made Public into its implementation.
