Euston Over-Station
Culture and Connectivity: Euston’s New Era

CLIENT
Lendlease
The redevelopment of Euston Station, set to host the first stop on the new national HS2 network, as well as an entirely new neighborhood above the station and tracks, is one of the most complex and high-profile projects in the country. Commissioned by Lendlease, we at Things Made Public developed a Cultural Placemaking Strategy that serves as the blueprint for culture within this over-station development. Our goal: to reconnect communities east and west of the trainline, create essential infrastructure for the creative powerhouse of Camden, and provide an inspiring experience for visitors, commuters, and Londoners alike.
In a place that means many things to many people, we undertook a programme of creative consultation that aimed to get under the skin of Euston and the people it serves. Through one-to-one interviews with major institutions and Camden Council, ‘Walk, Talk, Eat with Us’ events with local community groups, and reportage drawing installations at local festivals, we unearthed the cultural needs and priorities of the area, feeding them into the ever-evolving designs for the development.

At the heart of our cultural vision sits the ambition to ensure that no one is left behind, uniting science, culture, and communities. It encompasses commitments to infrastructure, programming, community ownership, and meanwhile activities that could span the 30-year development timeline.
Currently, the Euston OSD project is on hold due to the national pause on the HS2 project and ongoing review of HS2 Euston Station plans.
