Banter was a monthly secret pop-up comedy club funded by the Mayor of London’s High Street Fund that we rolled out in 2015. Keen on adventure, Banter travelled around a variety of secret locations on Romford’s High Street, with no stone left unturned in its quest for laughs.
Using both abandoned and inhabited units, the Banter comedy club provided more than just giggles. Not only did we manage to entice top notch comedy acts such as Sara Pascoe to Romford, Banter also animated dead spaces, spotlighted our great, existing businesses, and gave the audiences a chance to explore their town in a new and exciting way.
Throughout the year we hosted a bevy of artists including Snog Marry Avoid presenter Ellie Taylor, Scottee’s brilliant comedy poetry night Fraff as well as John Robertson who won the Critic’s Choice Award at the Wild West Comedy Festival. This public art project proved incredibly popular with the local community, bringing in large, mixed audiences across the board.
